Voice trading journal: journaling every trade by talking

Why recording a few seconds of voice at entry and exit beats writing notes after the session, and how it works in practice.

Updated 9 October 2026 · Afterfill

The idea

A voice trading journal replaces typing with speaking. When a position opens you say why; when it closes you say what happened. The audio is transcribed and attached to the exact trade from your platform.

Why voice works for traders

  • It is fast: five seconds instead of a minute of typing.
  • It is honest: you speak before you know the outcome.
  • It is hands-free: eyes stay on the chart, hands stay on the mouse.
  • It captures tone: rushed or calm is obvious when you listen back.

What happens to the recording

In Afterfill, the recording is transcribed and AI pulls out the setup, trigger, plan, exit and any rule you mention, each linked to your exact words so you can check it. Audio goes to OpenAI for transcription only when you allow AI processing. Prices and charts are never sent.

Auto capture

With a live connection, Afterfill can start recording by itself when a position opens and stop after a few seconds of silence. You can also use hotkeys (Ctrl+Shift+1 for entry, Ctrl+Shift+2 for exit) from any platform with the Afterfill browser extension.

Do you have to talk?

No. Typed notes and one-key quick notes work too, and every trade is journaled from your fills either way. Voice is simply the version most traders keep doing.
